The Lesley Batchelor Gallery
The Lesley Batchelor was launched with a gala opening in March 2019.
The Ballan & District Community House auspices the diverse interests of the many groups who meet and create at our Centre. The need for adequate art studio facilities has grown dramatically as Ballan’s population has expanded. The idea for an approachable gallery space for use by the community of Ballan and District was conceived by the Management of the Community House in 2015, as another valuable service we could offer to the area.
An intimate gallery space at the Centre of a small community where art is produced, is a great asset to a place like Ballan. Art and craft objects take a long time to create and the attraction of a small, well-appointed space with professional hanging and lighting systems is always of great interest to artists.
The space honours one of the House’s treasured Art Teachers who volunteered her time, expertise and enthusiasm for Art for many years here in Ballan.
Over the years the Studio facilities and then the Gallery were developed with the assistance of a number of Moorabool Shire Council, Community Grants and the Bendigo Bank Community Investment Fund and many hours of work by our dedicated band of volunteers to convert the space
